Israeli Technology launches Clear Black STP in India, helping save 40 per cent water

ClearBlack STP system is IOT enabled, which can be monitored on a smartphone from any location. The application is developed for Android and iOS. There is no requirement to keep 24/7 manpower to monitor it. The power consumption is low and has minimum chemical composition. It takes the lowest footprint and saves construction costs.

It is unique as it can be integrated with the current STP system. Huliot provides 24/7 technical support and skilled manpower for quick service on-site. Moreover, the Decentralized STPs can be supplied in containers, making them mobile and portable. Larger units can be installed using civil construction with the same IOT control system.

AT&T inaugurates India Development Centre in Chennai

Company building a dedicated digital operations centre

The U.S.-based telecommunications giant AT&T has opened its new development centre in Chennai. The new facility was inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Minister for Information Technology T. Mano Thangaraj with Bala Subramanian, Chief Digital Officer, AT&T.

The new centre at the RMZ Millenia Campus Phase 2 on MGR Salai has capacity to accommodate around 300 employees and will focus on building digital capabilities. “We recognise the talent and potential in Chennai and are excited about offering an environment where teams can work on features that have a direct impact on AT&T customers and employees,” Mr. Bala Subramanian said in a statement. 

“In addition, we are building a dedicated digital operations centre (DoC) that will act as a beachhead for our customer-centric operations transformation,” he added.

GE Healthcare launches its first ‘5G Innovation Lab’ in India 

GE Healthcare on Thursday announced the launch of its 5G Innovation Lab in India, the first for the company across the globe.

With the advantage of massive bandwidth, high data speeds, low latency and highly reliable connectivity, 5G has the potential to disrupt the patient care continuum, transforming diagnosis, therapy, and prognosis, the company noted.

“The 5G Innovation Lab is designed to position GE Healthcare at the forefront of these groundbreaking advances in patient care, including potentially bringing cutting-edge technology to rural and suburban regions,” a company statement said.

Situated at the John F.Welch Technology Centre (JFWTC) Bengaluru, GE Healthcare’s largest R&D centre outside of the USA, the lab will serve as a testbed to develop future-ready products and solutions, turning a new corner in innovation, it said.

5G in Healthcare was valued at an estimated USD 215 million in 2021 and is projected to reach USD 3,667 million by 2026.

“India is an important market for us globally and it is indeed the right time to venture into 5G, which will open a realm of exciting opportunities, driving the next wave of growth in Healthcare,” said Jan Makela, President & CEO, Imaging at GE Healthcare.

The GE Healthcare 5G Innovation Lab will serve as a conduit for the interplay of exponential technologies like AI/ML, IoT, Big Data, Edge Computing and Cybersecurity, the statement added.

Guterres appoints ex-diplomat of India Amandeep Sing Gill as technology envoy

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Friday appointed former Indian diplomat Amandeep Singh Gill as his envoy on technology to coordinate programmes for international digital cooperation.

Guterres’ spokesperson Stephane Dujarric announced the appointment calling Gill a “thought leader on digital technology”.

Gill, who graduated from the Panjab University in Chandigarh in BTech in electronics, has a doctorate in nuclear learning in multilateral forums from the King’s College in London.

According to the UN, the envoy on technology “coordinates the implementation of the Secretary-General’s roadmap on digital cooperation and will advance work towards the global digital compact proposed in the common agenda, in close consultation with the member states, technology industry, private companies, civil society, and other stakeholders”.

** IISc develops device to improve data encryption

‘This will provide better protection for digital data such as credit card details, passwords etc.’

A team at the Department of Electrical Communication Engineering (ECE), Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has developed a true random number generator (TRNG), which, the team says, can improve data encryption and provide improved security for sensitive digital data such as credit card details, passwords and other personal information. The study describing the device has been published in the journal  ACS Nano.

“Almost everything we do on the internet is encrypted for security. The strength of this encryption depends on the quality of random number generation,” explained Nithin Abraham, a PhD student who is a part of a team led by Kausik Majumdar, Associate Professor at ECE, which has developed the device.

** Insurtech firm Sureify Labs opens new office in Hyderabad

Plans to raise headcount in Hyderabad to 1,000 in three years

California-based insurtech firm Sureify Labs formally opened on Monday its new office in Hyderabad and announced plans to increase the headcount at the facility from 220 now to 1,000 by 2025.

“We build technology and offer software-as-a-service for life insurance companies and annuity industry,” founder CEO Dustin Yoder said of the firm that is focussed on the North America market.

Sureify has done some work in Japan and is keen on exploring opportunities to work with large life insurers in India as well within the next couple of years. “We are starting to engage with them,” he said after Industries and IT Minister K.T.Rama Rao inaugurated the office.

On the new office in Hyderabad, Mr. Yoder and head of Product Engineering T. Vijay Kumar said the 12,000 sq.ft. tech development centre will be crucial to the company’s growth and was decided to be established in Hyderabad in view of infrastructure and talent availability. Most of the product development and delivery will happen at the facility. Sureify Labs has 100 employees in the U.S.

** PM Modi inaugurates India’s first 5G testbed

The 5G testbed has been developed as a multi-institute collaborative project by eight institutes led by IIT Madras

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 17 inaugurated the country’s first 5G testbed to enable startups and industry players to test and validate their products locally and reduce dependence on foreign facilities.

The testbed has been set up at a cost of around ₹220 crore.

Speaking at the silver jubilee celebrations of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai), the Prime Minister said the 5G testbed is an important step for self-reliance in the direction of critical and modern technologies.

** US-based Applied Materials acquires land in Bengaluru for ₹350 crore

California-based Applied Materials has invested ₹350 crore ($50 million) to purchase land in Whitefield in Bengaluru where it is planning to expand its engineering infrastructure.

The company said the expansion would boost its next phase of growth in India.

“We expect this investment to support future product development and R&D, as well as benefit the development of the local supply chain,’‘ said Srinivas Satya, country president and Managing Director, Applied Materials India at Semicon India 2022 in Bengaluru on April 29.

Indian Government’s mission mode approach to evolve the country’s semiconductor sector, together with the ease-of-business initiatives and scaling up of indigenous electronics end-manufacturing, were positive and practical steps to enable its Semiconductor Mission, he added.

Applied Materials supplies equipment, services and software for the manufacture of semiconductor (integrated circuit) chips for electronics, flat panel displays for computers, smartphones, televisions, and solar products.

** Cigniti Technologies bags $10 million deal

Software quality engineering, testing and consulting services provider Cigniti Technologies on Tuesday said it has bagged a $10 million annual contract value (ACV) deal from one of the largest and oldest financial services and investment firm in the U.S.

The deal, to accelerate the U.S. firm’s digital transformation journey, is one of the largest it has won and has a high growth potential in the coming years, Cigniti said in a release.

The client is a Fortune 500 company with operations in 20 U.S. states and has offices in three continents. Cigniti Technologies CEO Srikanth Chakkilam said the deal is an outcome of deep-rooted expertise encompassing functional, process, business and digital assurance services for large enterprise customers.
