** Kolhapur-based software engineer among Apple’s ‘Shot on iPhone’ photography challenge winners

Apple’s ‘Shot on iPhone’ macro photography challenge invited photography enthusiasts from all over the globe to click the best macro picture using an iPhone 13 Pro/Pro Max.

Prajwal Chougule from Kolhapur, Maharashtra is among the ten global winners of the Apple ‘Shot on iPhone’ macro photography challenge. The global challenge was introduced for photography enthusiasts on January 25, 2022 and accepted entries till February 16, 2022.

Chougule joins nine other winners from countries including China, Hungary, Italy, Spain, Thailand and the US. The 10 winning photos, including Chougule’s will be featured on apple.com, on Apple’s Instagram (@apple), and on billboards in select cities around the world, including cities where the winners are from.

** Rohit Sharma reaches milestone of 500 fours in IPL

 He also became only the second Indian batter after Virat Kohli to complete 10,000 runs in the T20 cricket.

It was yet another milestone for Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma as he became the fifth batter to achieve this feat.

Rohit Sharma achieved this feat against Punjab Kings here at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium on Wednesday. He also became only the second Indian batter after Virat Kohli to complete 10,000 runs in the T20 cricket.

** PM Modi inaugurates museum to honour all Prime Ministers of country

Museum has been built at Teen Murti Estate, which was Nehru’s home for 16 years

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 14 inaugurated the Prime Ministers’ Museum at the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML) complex here.

Mr. Modi said every government after Independence had contributed to reaching the heights the country had achieved so far. Every Prime Minister had tried to take the country forward, he added.

The museum built at Teen Murti Estate, which was Nehru’s home for 16 years, is spread over 10,491 sq. m. and cost ₹306 crore, according to a statement. Work on the museum started in October 2018 and no trees were felled or transplanted from the site, it said.

The building includes over 40 galleries on the lives and tenures of all former Prime Ministers, except Jawaharlal Nehru, as well as a sound and light show. Entry to the museum will require a ticket of ₹100 through online booking for Indians over the age of 12 years and ₹110 for offline. Foreigners will be charged ₹750 for a ticket.

** Maha, Delhi girls bag bronze at Hungary Maths Olympiad

All four contestants representing India at the 11th European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad in Hungary have bagged bronze medals, an official said here on Monday.

The winners — three Class XII students and one Class X student — included two girls from Maharashtra and two sisters from Delhi.

They are: Ananya R. Ranade from Pune, Sanika A. Borade from Nashik, Anushka Aggarwal and Gunjan Aggarwal, both from Delhi. The students and were accompanied by their leaders/observers including Aditi S. Phadke, Puklit Sinha and Rohinee Joshi.

** Allahabad University students develop device to check backflow after injection

he students of the chemistry department in Allahabad University (AU), led by their supervisor and dean faculty of science Prof Shekhar Srivastava, have developed a device which will prevent backflow of injected liquid in humans.

The device will automatically lock the output pipe after the stipulated amount of medicine or for that matter any liquid as being injected by the doctor has been injected in the body.

The device has been granted patent for a period of 10 years by the Kolkata-based office of General of Patent, Design and Trademark, ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India.

The device is the effort of a team led by Prof Srivastava and included research scholars Rahul Kannaujia, Ghulam Mustafa and Mukta Singh.

** In West Bengal’s Birbhum, a unique community museum that archives Santal history and culture

The museum at Bishnubati village was put together by sourcing artefacts from Birbhum and Bankura districts and some from Santhal Pargana in Jharkhand. It is managed by Bishnubati Adibasi Marshal Sangha, a registered society founded by the villagers.

** Successful trials of Enhanced Pinaka Rocket System at Pokhran pave way for production

The enhanced Pinaka is the upgraded version of the rocket system, which has been designed with advanced technologies to destroy targets at long ranges.

 In a series of trials, India successfully tested multiple rounds of the Enhanced Pinaka Mk-I Rocket System (EPRS) and Pinaka Area Denial Munition (PADM) rocket system. The rocket system that can act as a short-range missile is now ready for user trials and production.

Defence sources said the EPRS and PADM systems were successfully test-fired from the Pokhran firing range. A total of 24 rockets were fired for different ranges during the last fortnight.

** India’s Chahat Arora wins gold at Thailand Age Group Swimming Championship

 Indian swimmer Chahat Arora clinched a gold medal in the women’s 50m breaststroke event at the Thailand Age Group Championship.

The Chandigarh swimmer, who won two gold medals at the nationals last year, won the yellow metal after equalling her own previous best Indian time of 33.62 seconds in Samut Prakan, Thailand.

Junior swimmers Vritti and Nina shine in SA Nationals 

The country’s junior swimmers continued to make a splash in South Africa.

Vritti Agarwal and Nina Venkatesh won a silver and bronze medal respectively in the South Africa National Championships.

Vritti clocked a personal best time of 18:06.40 to grab the silver in the junior girl’s 1500m 15-16 years freestyle event.

Nina won the bronze in the 50m butterfly finals with an effort of 29.03 in Port Elizabeth.

The two are a part of the 16-member Indian junior team participating at the South Africa nationals.

** 962 students graduate from IIM-K

The Indian Institute of Management-Kozhikode (IIM-K) hosted its 24 th convocation ceremony on the campus at Kunnamnagalam on Saturday. A total of 962 students graduated from the prestigious institute by receiving their titles and degrees.

The toppers in each programme were awarded their gold medals. Devesh Bansal, Pooja Goel, Shubham Sharma, Rakesh Pendyala, Ayushi Puri, Saksham Mehrotra, Kritika Vijay Kumar, and Aijaz Fatima were the gold medal winners in different categories.

The 24 th annual convocation also marked the grand culmination of the IIM-K’s silver jubilee celebrations. A series of programmes had been hosted online and offline to celebrate the silver jubilee fete on the campus.

** One Nation-One Product stall launched at Guntur Railway Station

Mangalagiri textiles, Tenali jute products and banana fibre products are being sold here

‘One station One Product’ – aimed at making a railway station a promotional hub for local products – was launched at the Guntur Railway Division on Saturday . 

The initiative, announced in the Union Budget 2022-23, would be implemented for 30 days (in two spells of 15 days each), from April 9 to May 7.

A fully-functional stall is earmarked for promoting and selling the product at select stations, to give a boost to the livelihood opportunities to local artisans, potters, weavers/handloom weavers, etc.

Guntur is famous for Mangalagiri textiles and handlooms and handicrafts. To give a fillip to artisans here, the Guntur railway station has been identified for the ‘One Station One Product’ initiative.
