** Hyderabad girl breaks 84 tiles, breaks Guinness World Record

Breaking a Guinness World Records title is often on karate champions’ bucket lists. But breaking 84 ceramic tiles in 84 seconds is not easy, not at least for a 13-year-old girl.

Gana Santoshinee Reddy has set the record for breaking in 84 seconds to mark the 84th month of formation day of Telangana on June 2. “I broke 84 tiles in 84 seconds to mark 84th month of formation of Telangana. I practised for 5-6 months,” she told reporters.

The brainchild of pacer Josh Lalor, the initiative will let fans watch the likes of Cummins, spinner Nathan Lyon and the pace duo of Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood on a live stream when they talk about cricket and showcase their gaming skills in a bid to raise AUD 100,000.

** New geometrical lines discovered in Thar Desert

The authors also suggest that the lines could be contemporary with the neighbouring memorial stones

Using Google Earth images, drone observations and field visits, two independent researchers from France have identified eight sites around Jaisalmer in the Thar Desert, that show linear features resembling geoglyphs. Geoglyphs are large, un-explained geometrical patterns on land usually proposed to be man-made features.

** International award for C.N.R. Rao

Bharat Ratna Professor C.N.R. Rao has been selected for the International Eni Award 2020 for research in energy frontiers. This is considered to be the Nobel Prize in energy research.

Professor Rao has been working on hydrogen energy as the only source of energy for the benefit of all mankind. Storage, photochemical and electrochemical production of hydrogen, solar production of hydrogen and non-metallic catalysis were the highlights of the work.

A species of pest-controlling lizard new to science has been named after a Mizo chieftain who fought the British forces 150 years ago.

Cyrtodactylus bengkhuaiai, named in honour of chieftain Bengkhuaia, is one of four new species of bent-toed geckos recorded by two groups of scientists in October-November 2020. Two geckos each were found in Mizoram and Meghalaya.

** Water campaign fetches student Forbes honour

Environmentalist Garvita Gulhati, a 21-year-old student of PES University, was nominated for ‘Forbes 30 under 30 Asia 2021’.

After learning that millions of litres of water are wasted each year in India, left unsipped in glasses in restaurants, Garvita started her youth-led organisation.

** Physically challenged ex-Army man from Chhattisgarh becomes world record holder in driving

Shirke broke the earlier world record held by the Australian physically challenged man Javier Stephens of driving 25,000 km in 2016.

He later created a new world record of driving a total of 1.26 lakh km. 

He carved out his own niche in the longest aggregated car driving as a world record holder and was recognized by Limca Book of Records and Golden Book of Records.
