After India’s rampaging win against Scotland which took their net run rate above New Zealand and Afghanistan, here’s a look at the records Virat Kohli and Co. shattered during the clash.

India on Friday showed the world what they are truly capable of. The ruthlessness with which the bowlers skittled Scotland for 85 in their T20 World Cup 2021 Super 12 match and the ruthlessness with which the batters chased down the target in 6.3 overs to take their net run rate above New Zealand and Afghanistan reiterated why they entered the tournaments as favourites. Even though the script hasn’t quite played out according to plan, they still continue to shatter new records.

1) Winning with most balls to spare for India in T20Is: In terms of winning a T20I with most balls remaining, this was India’s best performance yet.

2) Winning with most balls to spare in T20 World Cups: In terms of registering the biggest win by balls remaining in an ICC T20 World Cup match, the eight-wicket triumph was India’s third-best yet.

3) Highest Powerplay totals in T20 World Cups: Courtesy of the highly successful opening pair of Sharma and Rahul, the 2007 champions powered to their fifth-best PP score yet in T20 World Cup.

4) Highest Powerplay totals for India in T20Is: 82/2 after 6 overs is India’s best-ever Powerplay score yet in a T20I match.

5) Fastest 50s in T20 World Cups (balls): KL Rahul continued his fantastic run in the tournament by taking the Scottish bowlers to the cleaners and smashed yet another T20I fifty. In terms of ball taken, it turned out to be the fifth-quickest in the T20 World Cup history.

6) Lowest totals against India in T20 World Cups: Kyle Coetzer-led Scotland’s 85 all-out in 17.4 overs was the second-lowest total by a team against India in a T20 WC match.

** Bhaker and Foroughi win air pistol mixed team gold in President’s Cup

International mixed teams were formed by the ISSF randomly in accordance with the draw
India’s woman pistol ace Manu Bhaker and Iran’s reigning Olympic champion Javad Foroughi won the 10m air pistol mixed team gold at the inaugural ISSF President’s Cup.

The Indo-Iranian pair got the better of the French-Russian duo of Mathilde Lamolle and Artem Chernousov 16-8 in the gold medal match on November 5.

** Akash Kumar finishes with bronze

Debutant Akash Kumar (54kg) signed off with a bronze in the AIBA men’s World boxing championships after going down to Kazakh teenager Makhmud Sabyrkhan in the semifinals here on Thursday.

The 21-year-old Akash lost 5-0 to end the country’s campaign in the competition, where he became the seventh Indian male boxer to win a medal. He also claimed prize money of $25,000.

National champion, who entered the semifinal of the 54kg category, beat Yoel Finol, the 2016 Rio Olympics bronze medalist, to advance.

On Tuesday, Akash Kumar became only the seventh Indian boxer to win a medal at the World Championships. The 21-year-old did so in his debut senior tournament, dominating an Olympic medalist to enter the 54 kg semifinals in Belgrade. His relatives back home in Paluwas, Haryana though felt no nerves watching, only bittersweet joy afterwards.

** Army officer creates Guinness world record cycling from Gujarat to Arunachal

Lt. Col. Pannu is passionate about cycling and has created two consecutive world records for fastest solo cycling.

“Cycling is liberating, it is an elixir to the soul,” said Lt. Col. Bharat Pannu, a serving Electronics and Mechanical Engineer (EME) officer in the Army, as he bagged his third Guinness world record by cycling across the country from Gujarat to Arunachal Pradesh covering a distance of 3,800 km in nine days seven hours and five minutes.

His effort was part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971, which is being observed as ‘Swarnim Vijay Varsh’ in honour of the Soldiers who laid down their lives in the line of duty.

India had its biggest medal haul at the Tokyo Olympics with one gold, two silver and four bronze medals.

The unprecedented medal haul by Indian sportspersons at this year’s Olympics and Paralympics has resulted in a highest-ever number of recommendations for the Khel Ratna and Arjuna Awards.

Tokyo Olympics javelin throw champion Neeraj Chopra, silver medallist wrestler Ravi Dahiya, bronze-winning boxer Lovlina Borgohain and hockey goalkeeper PR Sreejesh are among 11 names selected for the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna, the country’s highest sporting honour.

India had its biggest medal haul at the Tokyo Olympics with one gold, two silver and four bronze medals. The other three medallists – wrestler Bajrang Punia, shuttler PV Sindhu  and weightlifter Mirabhai Chanu  – have already been conferred with the Khel Ratna.
